Matt Wonski

Matt discovered his love for the culinary world at the age of eleven, while helping his father, Tony Wonski, in the family business. He spent his earlier days peeling eggs, mopping floors, cutting cabbage, and washing dishes at the Town Hall Delicatessen, while learning everything he could about the details of running a business. He held virtually every role in the Delicatessen before taking the helm after graduating from Montclair State University in 2013, with a degree in Nutrition and Management.

His nearly two decades in the food industry have given Matt extensive experience - from purchasing to human resources, customer service, training, food safety and maintenance, as well as innovating and introducing new food offerings.

During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Matt pivoted his protocols, innovating and expanded service to continue to serve the community and retain his employees despite the challenging situation. SHP was also forced to pivot, and provide food service to the students and staff in a new way: SHP asked Matt to provide students with lunch options from Town Hall Deli during the Covid-19 protocols in 2020. Matt strengthened his relationship with his alma mater by providing reliable, well-prepared meals for the staff and students of Seton Hall Prep during the pandemic.

When Matt attended SHP, he bought breakfast and lunch daily. While the options that were available to Prep students were far better than neighboring schools, there was something missing; that something was the feeling of a home-cooked meal… real food, starting with natural ingredients- meals made from scratch. Matt is focused on evolving the offering while keeping that in mind. He is immensely proud to be continuing the tradition of excellence that was instilled in him as a student at SHP.
